Scunthorpe manager Graham Alexander has claimed that his side are not the only ones in the race to sign Rangers midfielder Matt Crooks.
The English League One club’s manager has made it no secret that he is eyeing up a deal to re-sign the 23-year-old, but has now admitted in a development that another team may beat him to the punch.
Crooks spent the second half of last season on loan with Scunthorpe and performed well in his 12 appearances, as he scored three goals and supplied one assist.
However, after helping the Iron reach the League One play-offs, he suffered a season-ending injury which appeared to seriously hinder the Lincolnshire club’s promotion challenge as they lost to Millwall in the semi-finals.
Despite the injury problems and other clubs joining the race, Alexander is still keen to get a deal done.
“He has got other clubs interested in him but we’re in the race,” the 45-year-old said to BBC Radio Humberside, as quoted on the BBC Sport website.
“I think there might be a better deal from another club but it comes down to a lot more than money sometimes.
“I’m always hopeful.
“I know there’s a will from all parties, but these deals are business deals and we’ll see how it goes over the next few days.”
Crooks arrived at Ibrox in 2016 from Accrington Stanley as part of Mark Warburton’s recruitment, but failed to make a mark north of the border as he earned just three appearances for the Light Blues.
Pedro Caixinha is yet to see what Crooks can do in the Gers shirt as he is still out of action through the injury he picked up at Scunthorpe.
However it looks increasingly likely that the Leeds-born midfielder will not be able to break into the Rangers first team any time soon due to the amount of new faces that have arrived this summer.
In other Rangers news, the Light Blues are gearing up a move for this Premier League title contender’s wonderkid.
