Aaron Ramsdale is undergoing a Sheffield United medical today after an Aston Villa ambush failed, Football Insider can reveal.

Chris Wilder’s side had an £18.5million bid for the Bournemouth goalkeeper, 22, accepted by Bournemouth last Saturday before the Midlands giants tried to hijack the deal.

A Bramall Lane source has told Football Insider that Ramsdale is heading to the club for medical tests on Wednesday as he looks to complete a blockbuster move from the Vitality Stadium.

He has been granted permission by Bournemouth to discuss personal terms and finalise a deal that is set to be announced within the next 24 hours.

The imminent capture of the keeper is a huge coup for United and their manager Chris Wilder.

Dean Henderson has been their number one for the last two seasons, but he has only been on loan from Manchester United.

It remains to be seen if Wilder will be keen to take Henderson for a third consecutive campaign with Ramsdale about to sign permanently.

Ramsdale has been targeted as he is regarded as a big talent with the potential to develop into a bona fide star.

Bournemouth have given up hope of holding on to one of their prize assets following relegation to the Championship.

The keeper took over as the Bournemouth first choice in 2019-20 and started 37 of their 38 league games as they suffered relegation to the Championship.

The shot-stopper joined the Cherries in January 2017 in a deal that was worth around £1m.
