Report: Standout performer ruled out of Celtic clash against Rangers, 23-year-old to start

By Alex Stevens

Wes Foderingham has been ruled out of Rangers’ Scottish Cup semi-final clash against Celtic on Sunday, according to a report.

The Scottish Sun claim the Ibrox number one sustained an injury in training and will take no part in the Old Firm fixture.

It is said that his deputy Jak Alnwick will step up from the bench to make his Rangers debut in what is their biggest match of the season to date.

Alnwick joined Rangers in the January transfer window from English League One side Port Vale in the same month that Matt Gilks was sold.

But he has had to play second fiddle to main man Foderingham, whose reported absence will be a huge blow to Rangers as he has been a standout performer for the team in what has been a challenging season.

His consistency in goal and high standards since transferring from Swindon in the summer of 2015 has been him a firm favourite among supporters.

The former England Under-19 international was a key player in the team’s promotion last season and has taken his game to new heights this season, in which he has started all 33 of the club’s Scottish Premiership fixtures.

In other Rangers team news, one of the club’s outstanding players has revealed a leading Premier League club are keeping close tabs on him ahead of a summer move.
