Rangers backed to sign Todd Cantwell amid 'next big thing' claim - expert

Alan Hutton has insisted Todd Cantwell would be a great addition to the Rangers side.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers defender said Cantwell had the potential to be “the next big thing” and claimed Ibrox could be the place to show his talent.

According to the Sun (7 January), the Light Blues are exploring the possibility of making a move for the 24-year-old in this window.

Michael Beale’s side are also open to taking Cantwell on a pre-contract which would see him join the Glasgow club in June when his Norwich City contract expires.

The midfielder has fallen down the pecking order at Carrow Road and has started just half of the 18 Championship games he has featured in.

When asked if the former England youth international would fit in at Ibrox, Hutton told Football Insider:I think he could.

He can play in various positions. He is only 24, he is probably at a stage in his career where he is looking for that change.

When he burst onto the scene everybody thought he was the next big thing, he has quietened down a little bit. But I think he is maybe looking for that change in his career.

I think Rangers is a good platform for him to go and show his talent. It is obviously there but it is about finding the right fit.

I think Michael Beale has shown he can get the best out of young players. So I think it is a signing that the Rangers fans will be hoping could happen.
