Rangers are preparing to offer Calvin Bassey a bumper pay rise to stay at the club, Football Insider has learned.

The 22-year-old, who can play centre-back or left-back, is on the radar of the Premier League elite following his outstanding Europa League displays this season.

An Ibrox source has told Football Insider that the club are lining up new contract talks with Bassey as they look to reward him for his integral status in the team.

Bassey, who signed on a four-year deal in 2020 after joining from Leicester City for £300,000, is set to be offered a "massive" pay hike.

It would see his wages climb beyond the £20,000-a-week mark and into the top bracket of earners at Ibrox.

Aaron Ramsey is the highest-paid player but he is on loan and likely to return to Juventus at the end of the season.

Bassey has been linked with the likes of Aston Villa and Fulham, while Football Insider revealed in February he is also being watched by West Ham.

The powerhouse defender opted to instead take advantage of cross-border rules and sign for Rangers two years ago.

The move has paid dividends for the versatile defender, who has been a regular starter for the Scottish champions this season and become a big crowd favourite.

His 49 appearances this term have been broadly split between centre-back and left-back.

He had an extended run at centre-back alongside Connor Goldson in Rangers' remarkable Europa League run that ended in penalty shoot-out heartache on Wednesday night.

The Glasgow giants have already sold one full-back to an English club this year after Everton signed Nathan Patterson last month for £12m rising to £16m.

Unlike Patterson, Bassey is a key member of the starting XI under both Giovanni van Bronckhorst and ex-boss Steven Gerrard.
