Rangers have been tipped to agree a sensational deal for Andrea Pirlo to take over from Philippe Clement should the manager lose his job amid growing pressure.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson, who remains well-connected within the game, has suggested the Italian is one of multiple big names in line for the job.

Pirlo's last managerial role was with recently relegated Serie B outfit Sampdoria, as he recorded a seventh-placed finish in his first season.

However, they took just one point from their first three games of the 2024-25 season, and the boss was dismissed on 29 August.

Clement, meanwhile, is facing building pressure at Ibrox after falling six points behind Celtic and Aberdeen at the top of the SPFL following a 1-0 defeat to Kilmarnock.

Rangers handed the boss a new contract during the summer which extended his stay at the club until 2028, but a poor season so far has led to speculation over his future.

As a result, several names have been put forward as possible options to take over the hot seat at Ibrox should the board call time on Clement's reign.

Robinson suggested the likes of Graham Potter, Michael Carrick and Carlos Corberan would be in the running should the position become available in the coming weeks.

Pirlo, however, was the former England goalkeeper's top tip for the position as he insisted his style of play would impress those at Ibrox while he still has room to grow as a boss.

"I have no doubt Rangers could attract a top manager," he told Football Insider.

"Look at the managers in the running for the job now, Carlos Corberan at West Brom, Michael Carrick at Middlesbrough, Graham Potter who's out of work.

"Andrea Pirlo is one that I like, he was relieved from his job at Sampdoria and was the manager of Juventus for a while.

"He's got a lot to give and a lot of room to grow in the game.

"I have full confidence that Rangers could attract a name like Pirlo to Ibrox.

"When you look at the job he did at Sampdoria, in a lower league and a struggling team, I like the way his teams play and I like the way they're coached."
