Celtic and West Ham legend Frank McAvennie joined the Football Insider stable in June 2020 and has not disappointed with his own brand of unique punditry. He loves talking football almost as much as he loved scoring goals, and still has close links in the dressing room at Parkhead.

Frank McAvennie has claimed Rangers "can't afford" to sack Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Celtic striker insisted that the fans do not understand the club's inconsistency.

On Monday (7 November), sources told Football Insider that Gers chiefs will hold crunch talks on Monday to discuss Van Bronckhorst's future.

The pressure has intensified after the Light Blues' 2-1 defeat to St Johnstone on Sunday (6 November) which leaves the club seven points behind Celtic in the title race.

Rangers also became the worst team in Champions League history after their 3-1 defeat to Ajax (1 November) meaning they finished bottom of their group on zero points with a goal difference of -20.

The Ibrox bosses are set to discuss sacking the Dutchman over concerns the players are not responding to his methods and could dismiss the manager during the World Cup break.

But McAvennie has claimed the Gers don't have the resources to sack Van Bronckhorst.

"I think if he was not on a good contract he would not be there." he told Football Insider.

"I think they can’t afford to sack him. Their league form has not been good but they are getting results, the fans are saying it is terrible.

"The fans that I know do not understand how they can be good one week then not the next when it is the same players. He keeps mixing the team up.

"Every week [John] Lundstram has a different player beside him. You have got to know your best team by now. It is a big club and your fans do not allow you to play the way you have been playing. They have been getting results but that is about it."
