Rangers have confirmed Gary McAllister, Michael Beale, Tom Culshaw, Jordan Milsom and Colin Stewart as Steven Gerrard’s backroom staff at Ibrox as the Liverpool icon’s Gers revolution steps up a gear.
The Gers confirmed the changes on their official website, with only Stewart remaining from the existing staff.
Beale, Culshaw and Milsom all join the Gers from Liverpool where they had worked alongside Gerrard as part of the Under-18s coaching set-up.
There was no mention of Jonatan Johansson’s future with the club after working with Pedro Caixinha, Graeme Murty and Jimmy Nicholl last season.
Football Insider verdict:
There are no real surprises in Gerrard’s backroom staff, although it is good to see Colin Stewart continue with the first-team squad after impressing with the Academy sides. Hopefully, there’s a role for Johansson at the club somewhere and a move to work with the returning Graeme Murty in the Academy might be the perfect fit for the former Gers star. With the new season rapidly approaching, the Gers staff will be wanting to get in and prepared before pre-season gets underway on June 15th. Gerrard looks to be surrounding himself with experienced people who he knows and trusts and it should bode well for his time at Ibrox. The staff he has brought to Ibrox all come with impressive pedigrees and should help improve the Gers squad as they look to end Celtic’s domination of Scottish football. Now all Gerrard needs to do is build a squad capable of challenging Brendan Rodgers’ side.
