Rangers could agree deals for English stars amid '£30m' claim - Stefan Borson
Rangers could sign the best players from the English Championship if they were to get back into the Champions League.
That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider the Scottish giants could earn more than £30million if they were to qualify for European football’s premier club competition again.
Philippe Clement’s side are competing in the Europa League this season after they were knocked out of the Champions League in the qualifying rounds.
Although they beat Malmo 2-0 in their first group stage game, Rangers are still on course to earn far less than Celtic from their European exploits after Brendan Rodgers’s side qualified for the Champions League.
Rangers could challenge Celtic with Champions League qualification
Borson suggested the increased riches now on offer for qualifying for the Champions League would drastically improve Rangers’ financial situation.
He told Football Insider: “If Rangers can get back into the Champions League, they could certainly compete financially with Celtic and also in addition with signing the best players out of the English Championship, such is the scale now of the Champions League prize money.
“You get £16-17million just for participation.
“Then you have got potentially another £14million from the group stage and that’s just prize money without including the people in the stadium.
“There are bonuses on top of that in terms of where you finish within the league ranking.
“Maybe you could finish in the play-off game and you get another two fixtures.
“Champions League is key, that’s just the bottom line.”
