Rangers could receive up to £3million in compensation if Philippe Clement were to become the next Belgium manager.

That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider it could be an ideal solution for the Scottish giants as the 50-year-old’s position at Ibrox is currently under threat.

The national team are believed to be considering a change of manager with Domenico Tedesco on the brink of losing his job, potentially opening up the role for Clement.

The Belgian has endured a difficult start to the season, with Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Dundee United leaving his side 11 points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership table.

Rangers could be handed neat Philippe Clement solution after Belgium links

Borson revealed there could be a £5million swing for Rangers if Clement were to join Belgium instead of being sacked at Ibrox.

He told Football Insider“It just depends whether they are about to sack him already in terms of compensation.

“I suspect £2-3million is probably the limit.

“I don’t think it’s going to move the dial materially, but it’s quite an elegant way out of the situation for all parties involved if Rangers have actually got their doubts about him anyway.

“They may well be encouraging that situation.

“It’s a neat solution and it allows them rather than paying out compensation to actually get some money in.

“When you are looking at the overall financial impact, to compare them like for like if they fire him, they have got compensation to pay on the way out, but actually if he’s leaving for Belgium, they are getting compensation on the way in and zero on the way out.

“The delta between the two could be £5million, even if it’s only £3million coming in from Belgium.

“It makes some sense, but it’s very hard to manage these sorts of situations as neatly as that.”
