Rangers: Danny Rohl handed another reason to trust Findlay Curtis as Kilmarnock experiment succeeds

Rangers boss Danny Rohl has been shown that loanee Findlay Curtis can also be an option for him in midfield next season after his latest strong showing for Kilmarnock.

Curtis scored on his last appearance for Killie to help seal a fourth successive win in their 4-1 victory at Livingston on Sunday.

His loan spell at Rugby Park from Rangers has seen him emerge as one of the most exciting young wingers in the Premiership.

The 19-year-old’s fine showings must have seen him return to Rohl’s plans for next term, and his latest performance shows that he can also be an option in midfield as well as on the left flank.

Another loan spell for Curtis has not been ruled out in Rangers’ transfer plans for the summer, but they must not let him leave as he displays his talents across the pitch.

Findlay Curtis shone for Killie in an unfamiliar midfield position

19-year-old Curtis has predominantly played on the right and left wing for Kilmarnock this season, with five goals and one assist in his 14 appearances for the club.

He showed a real touch of class with his final goal of the season on Sunday by diverting a low cross across the box into the far side of the net to make it 3-1.

Curtis’ performance was made even more impressive by the fact that he featured on the right of a three-man midfield, so was tasked with holding his place in the middle of the park rather than having the freedom to roam the final third.

It is never a bad thing for a young player like the Scotland star to add more strings to their bow, and this latest example of Curtis shining in a different position should show Rohl just how valuable he can be to Rangers next season and beyond.

Sources have exclusively revealed to Football Insider that Curtis could be sent out on loan again in the upcoming window as the Gers plan to make several attacking signings.

He has now proven his quality in central midfield, on either wing and even at right-back in the last few weeks for Killie, and Rohl clearly has to revise the plan for the 19-year-old and include him in his plans for next season.

Alan Hutton has told Rohl what to do with Curtis next season

Steve Clarke has been watching Curtis closely, and could name him in Scotland’s 26-man World Cup squad for the summer on Tuesday, 19 May.

The 19-year-old will be keen to impress Rohl in North America ahead of potentially returning to Ibrox, with former Gers star Alan Hutton urging the German boss to utilise Curtis

Speaking on Premier Sports’ Scottish Football Social Club last week, Hutton said: “You look at the likes of Findlay Curtis and what he’s done, the goals, you can see him improving week-on-week.

“If he was playing at that level, he’d be one of the first names down on that Rangers team sheet. I think the big thing for him is you go back with him, you’re trying to break into that first team. The pre-season is massive for him.

“You’ll get minutes there and then it’s up to him to grab the opportunity with both hands. He’s definitely got the quality. I hope he gets a chance at Rangers. It’ll be up to him to then take it.

“It would be criminal now, if they weren’t looking at Curtis and going, right, we need to create that space.”
