Rangers are planning to offer Connor Goldson a new contract after his heroics against Celtic, Football Insider has learned.
The centre-back, 27, has entered the final two years of his current deal, which expires in the summer of 2022.
Ibrox sources have told Football Insider that it was always the club’s plan to work on a new deal for Goldson, 27, this autumn regardless of his outstanding start to the campaign.
His reputation is at an all-time high after he scored both of Rangers’ goals in their 2-0 triumph at Parkhead on Saturday to extend his side’s lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership to four points.
Goldson has played every minute of his team’s 11 league matches this season in which they conceded just three goals.
He was a wanted man ahead of the summer window and attracted interest from English giants including Leeds United, Everton, West Ham and West Brom.
But Rangers were able to keep hold of the defender after placing a £6million price tag on him.
Goldson has reignited his career in Scotland following his £3million transfer from Brighton in the summer of 2018.
He has barely missed a minute of first-team action since his arrival and Steven Gerrard has long regarded him as his side’s outstanding centre-back.
Goldson has already made a remarkable 120 appearances for Rangers just two months into his third season at the club.
The 6ft 3in defender has demonstrated his value at both ends of the pitch and now has 12 goals for the Light Blues.
