Rangers expected to seal striker and centre-back signings on one condition - Hutton

Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst could sign a striker and a centre-half this summer, according to Alan Hutton.

The ex-Gers right-back, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, said “it all boils down” to what Alfredo Morelos choses to do this summer.

Rangers confirmed (3 June) that centre-back Leon Balogun had left the club following the expiration of his contract.

Swiss striker Cedric Itten has also left the club on a permanent basis.

Hutton believes another centre-half and striker could be signed, especially if Morelos leaves the club.

When asked by Football Insider where he expected the Light Blues to strengthen, Hutton said: “For me it all boils down to what Morelos does.

“I think if he leaves, you have to bring a striker in and we’ve seen how much they struggled last season without Morelos, so I think that will be the main position that Giovanni van Bronckhorst will want to strengthen.

“But obviously the manager will also want to put his own stamp within this squad of his, which he’s not really been able to do.

“He’s obviously lost a centre back in Balogun so that might be a position where he will have to bring somebody in.

“Goalkeeper was obviously a question mark, but after the signings you wouldn’t have thought they’ll bring anybody in now.

Rangers finished second in the Scottish top flight last season – six points behind winners Celtic.

Van Bronckhorst’s side were also runners up in the Europa League after losing out to Eintracht Frankfurt in the final.

In other news, Rangers could be forced into a cut-price Alfredo Morelos sale.
