Rangers TV man Alan Hutton has insisted Nicky Clark's challenge on Ryan Jack was a red card.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers defender insisted St Johnstone can't argue with referee Willie Collum's decision.

As shown on Sky Sports (28 January), the Saints striker was shown a straight red card by the referee after a two-footed challenge on Jack.

The VAR official Nick Walsh held up the decision of the on-field referee.

The Gers went on to win the game 2-0 and stay nine points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership table.

However, the club confirmed (1 February), that they have won their appeal against the sending-off and Clark is free to face Motherwell and will be available for their game against Celtic on Sunday (5 February).

But Hutton insisted Collum made the right decision to send off Clark.

"I think it was a red card," he told Football Insider.

"It is a long ball up to Clarke, he does not take the best of touches and he is trying to react to the bouncing ball.

"It goes high, it is where he actually hits Ryan Jack. It is so high up his leg that it is a dangerous tackle.

"Me personally, I do not think you can argue with that. You expect a red card because it was so high. For me it was a red card."
