Barrie McKay was substituted midway through the second half of Rangers' 4-0 triumph against Hamilton on Saturday - and Ibrox fans took to Twitter to pan his display.

The attacking midfielder, 22, has had bursts of excellence during a season in which he has been one of the more impressive players in the team.

But McKay was not at his best against lowly Hamilton and new manager Pedro Caixinha withdrew him from the fray after 66 minutes and Joe Garner took his place.

The one-time Scotland international, who has scored four goals and supplied 11 assists in 38 matches in all competitions this season, is seen as one of the shining lights of a generally undistinguished Rangers side.

Supporters took to social media to point out that McKay was one of the few disappointments of an otherwise uplifting afternoon.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

The win gives Rangers hope of clawing back Aberdeen in the race to the runners-up spot behind runaway leaders Celtic.

The Dons won 2-0 against Hearts earlier in the day, which means Rangers are still eight points adrift of second place despite increasing their own points haul to 50.

But the Light Blues have taken four points from their last two matches after restoring pride with a landmark 1-1 draw against Celtic at Parkhead last weekend.
