'Best news I've heard this year' - Rangers fans react on Twitter as 26-yr-old heads out

By Harvey Byrne

Rangers fans have aired their delight on Twitter after it was confirmed that centre-back Rob Kiernan had departed for English League One side Southend.

The Essex-based club announced the 26-year-old’s signing via their official website and Twitter account with the defender agreeing a three-year contract for an undisclosed fee.

Kiernan joined Rangers while the Ibrox giants were in the Championship in the summer of 2015 and helped the Glasgow giants achieve promotion in his debut campaign.

However, once in the Premiership he and many others of the Gers squad struggled with the expectation around the club and he has now been allowed to leave as Pedro Caixinha continues to overhaul the squad.

A number of fans on social media have also welcomed the transfer with one fan going as far as to say that it’s the best news he’s heard all year, while others stated that they’re glad he’s gone.

He will now be hoping to help Phil Brown’s Southend team win promotion from League One as he looks to restart his career in England.
