Graeme Murty made the headlines this week after seemingly criticisng new January signing Greg Docherty. Talking in the

he said, "I thought in the first half, Greg Docherty tried too hard – he tried to be everywhere and tried to cover every blade of artificial grass and tried to do everything." “That’s kind of what he would do for Hamilton – but for us he needs to be more structured, and he needs to have more of an understanding of his role within the team." The comments drew some criticism from Rangers fans who didn't think it was right for the manager to single out specific players for blame. However, a comment piece on the Four Lads Had a Dream Rangers blog, took a different view. It claimed that Murty was right to discuss how the team was developing and that the media had cherry-picked comments out of context, ignoring the praise that Murty had also given to Docherty. It started a debate among Rangers fans on Murty's style of management, with some fans thinking he was right but others saying he should focus on the positives in public and leave the criticism for behind closed doors. I haven’t seen the interview but from what you say, it seems it was an honest assessment of where Greg is i.e. his 1st couple of appearances could be better but we’re now seeing an improvement

Great article guys. I think in balance you are right. Murty is being honest about things that matter to us while educating us about what his aspirations are. At no point did it feel like he was criticising Docherty, who in the end did well 👍

It’s a good thing in the whole. Far from Murty talking up his signings, his squad or their prospects he offers a reasonable blunt and yet guarded assessment of where we can improve. If we all focused on this I’d be happy. Just cos something works doesn’t mean it can’t be improved
