Rangers fans have taken to Twitter to urge the club to sign up defender Steven Caulker after he was released by English Championship side QPR.

The Rs announced on their official Twitter account on Thursday that Caulker, 26, had left Loftus Road by mutual consent, meaning that he is now available for free with the January transfer window just around the corner.

In the summer, it was made public that the one-time England international has been struggling with addiction and Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers had reached out to the centre-back he once worked with at Swansea.

GetWestLondon has reported that Celtic were expected to sign up the ex-Liverpool defender in the summer after holding talks with QPR to snap him up on a free transfer, however no such move materialised.

Rodgers even refused to rule out a move for Caulker so it was surprise that a deal wasn’t reached for a defender he quite clearly admires.

However now, Rangers fans want Graeme Murty and director of football Mark Allen to work together on bringing in Caulker to improve their defence ahead of the second half of the Premiership season.

Caulker has struggled to get any football at QPR this season due to his personal issues and has made just four appearances across all competitions.

In other Rangers news, the Gers are in the hunt to sign this international enforcer, but it may force a senior player to quit Ibrox.
