Rangers fans have taken to Twitter to call for Josh Windass to be axed for Tuesday night’s Scottish Premiership clash against Partick Thistle at Firhill.

The attacking midfielder, 24, has been a mainstay of the team this season, starting 22 of their 25 league matches, mainly on the left wing before reverting to a central role in recent months.

It has paid dividends, with Windass scoring nine goals and supplying eight assists from 28 games in all competitions in 2017-18.

Windass had appeared to have won over a previously sceptical fanbase with his performances since Graeme Murty replaced Pedro Caixinha at the helm in October.

But a huge number of supporters took to social media in the build-up to the SPL encounter on Tuesday calling for the Englishman to drop down to the bench.

One fan claimed he “needs a boot up the arse”, while others wanted Jason Cummings to be handed his full league debut for the club in a twin-pronged attack alongside 13-goal leading scorer Alfredo Morelos.
