Kenny: Gerrard 'concerned' as Euro giants reportedly target Rangers star Aribo

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard “will be concerned” about the prospect of losing one of his top performers this season in Joe Aribo.

That is according to ex-Premier League goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after Turkish outlet SporX reported that Galatasaray are keen on Aribo.

The dextrous midfielder is contracted at Ibrox until 2023 after signing a four-year deal upon his move from Charlton Athletic two summers ago.

SporX claim that the Turkish giants value him at just £3million but expect Rangers to demand a more significant fee.

Football Insider revealed back in February that Rangers coaches are confident Aribo can go to an even higher level next season.

And Kenny claims that Gerrard will be anxious about losing the 24-year-old and throwing off his title-winning side’s equilibrium.

He told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams: “Gerrard will be concerned about upsetting the rhythm of that side.

“With what they’ve done this season, they’ll be wanting to build on that and keep as many players as they can.

“Players like Aribo who have been amazing this season, they definitely won’t want to lose.

“So you would be a little bit worried. You want to keep the core of that side together and push on and try and win the league again next season.”

A Nigeria international, Aribo recovered from an early-season ankle injury to feature 42 times in 2020-21.

Those appearances yielded eight goals and seven assists, helping the Light Blues on route to an undefeated season and first Premiership triumph in a decade.
