'Rangers had high hopes for him' - Exclusive: Hutton reacts as EFL club work on Ibrox signing
Alan Hutton admits that Jamie Barjonas is yet to hit the heights expected of him after Rangers gave his loan exit the green light.
The former Gers defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, revealed that former Ibrox youth coach Peter Lovenkrands is a huge fan of the midfielder after working with him during his development.
As revealed by Football Insider, League Two outfit Barrow are plotting a move to sign the versatile central midfielder on loan for next season.
The promising talent was singled out for praise by Steven Gerrard after he scored the second goal in a 2-0 win over OGC Nice.
Hutton believes there is a lot more to come from Barjonas and believes a boost in confidence could help kick-start his career.
Speaking about the midfielder’s pre-season form, Hutton told Football Insider: “These are the opportunities that the youngsters want – there’s not so much pressure on you, you can go out and enjoy yourself and enjoy being about the first team.

“I think they obviously had high hopes for him but he’s not quite burst onto the scene yet but even speaking to Peter Lovenkrands, he thinks he’s an excellent talent who can come from an attacking midfield and score goals and stuff.
“He thinks really highly of him so it’s about confidence. I mean, scoring a goal for the first-team, his confidence will be through the roof – it’s just about building on that now.”
Barjonas has played nine times for the senior side at Ibrox after coming through the youth ranks in Glasgow.
He has previously spent time on loan at Bury and Raith Rovers, while he joined Partick Thistle temporarily in January for the second half of the season.
