Rangers handed Kent, Morelos and Aribo boost after £23.5m reveal - pundit

Danny Mills has suggested Rangers will be able to keep hold of Joe Aribo, Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos now they have sold Nathan Patterson.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Leeds United and England defender claimed the decision to sell Patterson to Everton was the “best thing to do” for the club.

Rangers confirmed on Tuesday (4 January) the young right-back and academy graduate had signed for Everton for a club-record fee.

It is understood the Premier League outfit have paid an initial £12million fee for the Rangers academy graduate that could rise to £16million.

The Light Blues revealed in accounts released last year (5 November) they had made an annual loss of £23.5million.

Asked if Patterson’s departure means the Gers can now hold onto Aribo, Kent and Morelos, Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley. “Often, if you get rid of one you can balance the books a little bit,”

“When I was at Charlton Athletic back in the day it was either myself or Mark Kinsella, one of us had to go. Obviously, I left and went to Leeds and they got decent money. That meant they could keep Kinsella and add one or two other players.

“That’s what happens. It’s about balancing the books. If you’ve got to get rid of one to keep three then sometimes it’s the best thing you can do.”

All three of Morelos, Kent and Aribo are out of contract at Ibrox until the end of next season.

Aribo has been the club’s standout player this season with six goals and four assists in 20 league games from midfield.

In other news, a Merseyside club have made a move to sign a second Rangers player.
