Rangers have dropped Calvin Bassey exit hint after source reveal - pundit

Rangers are preparing for the exit of Borna Barisic or Calvin Bassey by registering their interest in Stoke City defender Josh Tymon.

That is the view of former Spurs and England goalkeeper Paul Robinson, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Gers hunt for a new left-back this summer.

A Rangers source told this site (7 June) that the club have made an enquiry to Stoke City for their left-back Tymon.

The Potters are braced for offers for the 23-year-old defender, who played almost every minute of the 2021-22 Championship campaign.

His contract with Stoke City runs until the end of June 2025.

When asked by Football Insider if the move hints at an Ibrox exit for either Barisic or Bassey, Robinson said: “You would think so, reading between the lines.

“Rangers are blessed with two quality players in the left-back position. If they are looking to sign another one, alarm bells are ringing. You immediately think one of them is going to leave. That is natural.

“Whether it happens or not is another thing. Only time will tell.

“Rangers have two left-backs who are highly sought-after though. Bassey is one that Steven Gerrard wants. He has had that working relationship with him before and knows just how good he is.”

Bassey was one of Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s star performers in the 2021-22 season.

Aston Villa are widely reported to be chasing the versatile defender this summer.
