Rangers will be limited to loan signings in this January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

Philippe Clement is keen to draft in additional help at Ibrox this month after a shaky start to the 2024-25 campaign.

However, it is believed the Belgian is realistic - and is fully aware that finances at Ibrox are tight, and will not stretch to permanent additions in the mid-season window.

He addressed the situation in a press conference following the draw against Hibernian (5 January), revealing that CEO Patrick Stewart will discuss the transfer plan with reporters imminently.

Clement said: “He [Stewart] wants to give that explanation what is the plan for January. I think every manager feels that [they could use more players], and for sure in the situation we are."

“For the moment with injuries and everything, but there’s also the situation of the club. You need to pay it also, and I’m not the one who can pay that. I don’t have that money.”

Rangers can only seal loan deals this month

Rangers are currently battling through a number of injuries and stood up to the task well when they beat Old Firm rivals Celtic 3-0 at Ibrox last week (2 January).

However, the Gers took two steps back just days later when they dropped points with a 3-3 draw away at Easter Road.

The Glasgow giants will be limited to loan deals if they are to improve the squad in this window, which slams shut on 3 February.

Neraysho Kasanwirjo and Vaclav Cerny are already at Ibrox on a temporary basis, with the latter becoming a key part of Clement's side in the 2024-25 campaign.

The Gers are 13 points adrift of Celtic in the Scottish Premiership title race but are well-placed to advance to the knockout stages of the Europa League with two league phase games left to play.
