Rangers have been linked with a move for 22-year-old Angers midfielder Lasanna Coulibaly, according to a report.
The Scottish Sun claims that Gers boss Steven Gerrard is considering making a loan deal for the Mali international, who would however need a work permit to secure his move to Glasgow.
The player made 22 appearances for the Ligue 1 one side last season, scoring 1 goal, and he can play in both the middle of the park and in a more defensive role.
Football Insider verdict
The fact that Lasanna Coulibaly would need a work permit could place some complications on the deal, but if he is a player that Steven Gerrard is keen to sign then Mark Allen should go out and bring him to Ibrox. It is certainly intriguing that the centre of midfield looks to be an area which Gerrard is keen on strengthening, as if the Mali international signs he would most likely be competing with Ross McCrorie for places in the middle of the park. Gerrard is obviously hoping to make more additions to his squad before the Gers begin competitive action, both in Europe and in the Scottish Premiership, and Coulibaly would be a useful addition to the Gers squad as they look to sustain a challenge in both Scotland and Europe. Would that be enough to win the title, it’s too early to tell, but the Gers should try to get as many players in as they can to increase their numbers ahead of what could be a hectic schedule.
