Rangers have made an enquiry for Leicester City starlet Dennis Gyamfi, Football Insider can reveal.

The Glasgow giants are challenging the Premier League elite for the summer capture of the teenage right-back, who is set to become a free agent in a fortnight's time.

Ibrox sources have told Football Insider the club have made an approach to Gyamfi's camp about a potential deal but they lag behind other teams in the race to sign him.

Tellingly, Brendan Rodgers has reacted to the interest and the growing possibility of losing the teenager by promoting him to first-team training ahead of Leicester's return to action.

That means a new contract for the teenage star cannot be ruled out in the coming weeks.

Rangers have already demonstrated their intent this summer by signing Gyamfi's fellow Foxes academy product Calvin Bassey on a pre-contract after he rejected a new Leicester deal.

That deal is expected to go through as soon as the Scottish transfer window formally opens.

Gyamfi's future is up in the air because his scholarship contract expires on 30 June.

The Holland Under-19 international has been rapid progress since making his Premier League 2 debut for Leicester Under-23s in January.

At Rangers, Steven Gerrard and his staff believe they are already quite well stocked at right-back despite releasing Jon Flanagan last month.

Skipper James Tavernier is the undisputed first choice, there are high hopes for home-grown youngster Nathan Patterson and Matt Polster also provides back-up.
