Rangers‘ chances of signing Motherwell star Elijah Just have improved as Jens Berthel Askou moves closer to joining Toulouse over rivals Celtic.
Attacking midfielder Just has emerged onto the radars of both Old Firm clubs after being a standout under Berthel Askou at Motherwell this season.
Celtic have been linked with a double Motherwell swoop, with Berthel Askou reportedly lined up to succeed Martin O’Neill as their manager in the coming months.
He remains a strong contender to take over at Parkhead this summer, but new reports have claimed that the Dane is now in talks to become the new boss of Ligue 1 side Toulouse.
Berthel Askou could well choose to move to the French top flight in the coming days, and Rangers’ plans to sign Just have been boosted as Celtic now seem less likely to swoop for his services without him at the helm.

Football Insider have revealed that Motherwell will accept a big offer for Just this summer, with both Old Firm sides and numerous English clubs believed to be interested in snapping him up.
He ended the 2025-26 season with 14 goal contributions in 35 league games and is set to star at the World Cup for New Zealand this summer.

Rangers ended the latest campaign in poor form, especially compared to champions Celtic, with the general feeling being that the latter had pulled ahead in the race for the playmaker for that reason and also due to continued links to Berthel Askou.
Now that the Motherwell boss could be snapped up by Toulouse, who are bound to be an attractive prospect after a 10th-placed Ligue 1 finish, the two sides look to be on a level playing field when it comes to tempting Just into a move away.

Just has just one year left on his current contract at Motherwell, so an exit feels inevitable, with talks over a new deal yet to be reported on.
The 26-year-old is unlikely to leave Fir Park until after the World Cup, but has recently addressed talk around his future with a move away on the horizon.
Speaking last month, he said: “Of course, you can’t help but notice it (transfer interest). And it’s always nice when people are talking about you.
“I’ve told my agent that I don’t want to hear about anything that goes on, anything about anyone that’s got in contact with him, he hasn’t told me. I’ve said to him, ‘Just leave me to focus on the football’.
