Rangers are "clever" to take steps to keep fan engagement high after an unspectacular start to the season on the pitch.

So says finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the latest initiative out of Ibrox.

The club announced on 4 October that MyGers members will be invited to watch an open training session on 14 October.

The MyGers scheme costs £50 annually and proceeds are diverted specifically to the Scottish champions' transfer budget.

Rangers are top of the Scottish Premiership but have lost their first two Europa League group stage games in 2021-22.

Maguire claims that Rangers have not hit the dizzy heights of last season and so are keen their "amazing" fanbase sweet.

"It's a clever idea," he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.

"I think the Rangers hierarchy are aware that the start of the season has not matched the expectations of the fanbase.

"Therefore, taking steps such as these ticks boxes in terms of transparency. It gives the opportunity for interaction between fans and playing staff.

"Look at the data, Rangers have an amazing fanbase who are very committed to the club. You can see the benefits.

"By restricting this to MyGers members, that becomes a more exclusive club. We are seeing more and more of these innovative ideas.

"It might persuade some more people to sign up as well, which is a bonus.

"But it's about maintaining that relationship with the supporters, I think that's the most important thing."
