Revealed: Rangers reach agreement in principle to sign proven PL player, he will join in June

EXCLUSIVE By Pete O’Rourke

Rangers have reached an agreement in principle to sign Burnley midfielder Scott Arfield on a free transfer, Football Insider sources understand.

The Glasgow giants have been linked with the Canada international, 29, in the last 36 hours as they work on a deal to win his signature ahead of the summer window.

Well-placed sources close to the situation have told Football Insider that Arfield has told Rangers director of football Mark Allen he will join them as soon as the transfer window opens in June.

He will now pen a pre-contract agreement with Rangers and is set to become their first signing of the summer window.

The official Fifa website claims the Scottish window is set to open on 9 June this summer.

Former Falkirk player Arfield is coming to the end of his contract at Turf Moor and will be available on a Bosman free in the forthcoming window.

Arfield was signed by Burnley from Huddersfield in 2013 and has been a key player for Sean Dyche’s side as they have established themselves in the Premier League top flight.

Only Ashley Barnes (97) and Ben Mee (96) have made more than Arfield’s 86 top-flight appearances for Burnley.
