Sources: Rangers make Antoine Semenyo top target as they plot beating Celtic to deal

Rangers are plotting a January move for Bristol City attacker Antoine Semenyo, sources have told Football Insider.

The 22-year-old has attracted the interest of a number of clubs, including the Glasgow club’s rivals Celtic after catching the eye in recent seasons.

Rangers are in the market for a forward in the January window and it is believed that Semenyo is very high on their list of targets.

He is currently at the World Cup with Ghana and was a late substitute in their opening-match 3-2 defeat to Portugal on Thursday.

Bristol City are braced for further interest in Semenyo in January as his contract is due to expire next summer.

The Championship club have the option of an extra 12 months included in his current deal.

Semenyo is a versatile forward who can operate at centre-forward or in other attacking roles behind the main striker.

He has made 18 appearances for City this season, but has only made the starting XI in the league on seven occasions.

Semenyo has scored four times in total but his last goal came in September in City’s 3-2 Championship defeat to Norwich City.

Rangers are in the market for a new forward amid major doubts over the futures of star duo Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos.

Both players are out of contract at the end of the season and have rejected offers to sign extensions.
