Rangers winger Jake Hastie has completed a medical at Rotherham as he finalises a loan move, Football Insider can reveal.

The Scotland Under-21 international is putting the finishing touches to a move to the English League One club today after an agreement was reached over the weekend.

Ibrox sources have told Football Insider that Rangers manager Steven Gerrard is convinced Hastie's development will best be served by being a regular in England's third tier rather than being a bit-part player in Glasgow.

Hastie signed a four-year deal at Rangers earlier this year after leaving Motherwell for a six-figure compensation fee.

The 21-year-old has been limited to one start in Europa League qualifying and one appearance as a substitute in the League Cup, amounting to 69 senior minutes in total.

He was not in the Rangers matchday squad for yesterday's 2-0 home defeat to Celtic as he closes in on a transfer that is expected to be sealed ahead of tonight's cut-off.

Rangers have already loaned Ross McCrorie to Portsmouth and Jordan Rossiter to Fleetwood Town, while Glenn Middleton has joined Scottish Premiership rivals Hibernian for the season.

Hastie may be one of a number of permanent or temporary departures from Ibrox today, with the futures of the likes of Eros Grezda, Graham Dorrans, Joe Dodoo and Jason Holt also up in the air.
