Pundit reacts to Katic's 'desperate' Rangers admission

Nikola Katic will be like a “new signing” for Rangers after revealing he is raring to go ahead of next season.

That is according to ex-Premier League goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 24-year-old Croatian defender.

Katic told Rangers’ official website on 4th July that he “so desperate to play and so excited” as well as asserting that he is set to “prove how ready” he is.

Katic missed the entirety of the 2020-21 campaign after suffering a knee injury during his pre-season preparations.

The one-cap Croatia international featured 59 times after signing for Steven Gerrard’s side from Slaven Belupo in a £2million deal in June 2018.

Kenny hailed the timing of Katic’s return with fans set to be welcomed back to Ibrox for the new season.

He told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams: “I’ve been in that situation where I’ve played with players who have been out for a really long time.

“It’s so different for them being in that treatment room and doing physio and gym all the time.

“When you’ve had someone out for such a long time, it is like a new signing. I’m sure they’ll gradually get him back into it.

“It’s a great time to come back as well with fans allowed back in. That’s another boost as well.

Rangers begin their Scottish Premiership title defence at home to Livingston on 31st July.

They sauntered to a first championship in a decade last season as they went unbeaten and finished 25 points clear of nearest challengers Celtic.
