Rangers centre-forward Alfredo Morelos has been named in the Scottish Professional Football League’s Team of the Week.

The top flight team was chosen by Scottish football reporter Craig Fowler, and the 21-year-old was named as one of his top picks to play upfront alongside Queen of the South goalscorer Stephen Dobbie.

Morelos was named in the team by Fowler because of his most recent stunning performance against Ross County where he scored two of the three goals which secured Gers the win.

When explaining his decision the writer gave his reason for selecting the Rangers youngster: “The Colombian was a menace throughout the first half, in particular, and was rewarded for his industry – even if he did get a helping hand from Scott Fox.”

The SPFL shared the Team of the Week on their official Twitter account on Tuesday evening.

The young Colombian moved to the Ibrox stadium in a three-year-deal from HJK Helsinki at the beginning of the summer transfer window.

Since joining for a fee of around £1million, Pedro Caixinha has already got his money’s worth from the forward as he has scored five goals in seven appearances already this season.

Morelos was one of a number of new signings recruited by Caixinha this summer, as the boss looked to strengthen their chances of contending for the title over rivals Celtic.

In other Rangers news, it can be revealed that a powerhouse wanted by Caixinha has rejected a contract as he seeks last-gasp transfer before window shuts.
