Rangers in talks for Championship midfielder as they step up bid - report

By Derek Smithson

Rangers are in talks with Norwich about signing their midfielder Graham Dorrans, according to a report.

The Daily Record claim that the Gers are speaking to the Championship club about the 30-year-old making a summer switch to Ibrox.

It is understood that Pedro Caixinha’s side have stepped up their bid to land the central midfielder recently and that their manager has continued to work behind the scenes on transfer targets despite returning to Portugal.

The report details that Dorrans would “relish” a move to his homeland Scotland and the chance to play for his boyhood club.

Dorrans has carved out a strong career in English football and has been a popular figure at Carrow Road since joining in 2015, while also enjoying a seven-year spell at West Brom.

The 11-time capped Scotland international was unfortunate with injuries this season, but still played an important role for Norwich in the Championship.

He made 24 appearances across all competitions and managed six goals in return.

Caixinha is set to undergo a huge overhaul of his squad in the summer to help Rangers compete in the top flight again and the report details they are trying to wrap up a deal quickly for Dorrans.

Football Insider verdict:

Rangers certainly need to strengthen in the summer and the central midfield area is in need of an upgrade. They are set to lose loanees Jon Toral and Emerson Hyndman, meaning Niko Kranjcar, Josh Windass, Jason Holt and Andy Halliday are left fighting for a starting spot. Norwich ace Dorrans could definitely provide extra competition and cement his position in the side. The midfielder is renowned for his versatility and he really is a jack of all trades. He could bring some stability to the Gers in the centre of the park and has also shown an extra quality in front of goal during his career. Rangers have lacked goals from around the park in their side and need their midfielders to chip in with more during the year.
