Rothwell expected to 'walk straight into Rangers starting XI' as signing 'almost certain' - pundit
Blackburn Rovers midfielder Joe Rothwell would be a top-class signing and “walk straight into” the Rangers starting XI.
That is the view of ex-Rovers goalkeeper Paul Robinson, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the in-demand 26-year-old.
The Sun reported on 19 October that a Blackburn source believes a Rangers switch is ‘almost certain’ for Rothwell.
He is out of contract at the end of the season and could sign a pre-contract deal with the Scottish champions in January.
Norwich and Bournemouth have both been linked with Rothwell, and Football Insider revealed in August that Brentford are interested too.
The explosive midfielder has started all but one of Rovers’ 14 Championship matches this season, providing four assists and scoring one goal.

Robinson expressed his admiration for Rothwell and hailed Rangers’ strategy of targeting soon-to-be-out-of-contract players.
He told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams: “He is a very, very good Championship player and he has done extremely well at Blackburn.
“Rangers are clever because they know they don’t have the finances of a Premier League club when it comes to transfers.
“But the way that they have brought players in like John Lundstram on free transfers, it’s a very savvy way of doing business.
“Players in the last year of their contract are obviously going to cost a lot less than players who have four years left.
“He’s a top player who would walk straight into that Rangers team as well.”
