Rangers tipped to accept Goldson bid this month after offer rejected - pundit

Noel Whelan has tipped Rangers to cash in on Connor Goldson before the end of the January transfer window.

The former Aberdeen striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted getting some money for the 29-year-old would be “better than nothing”.

A Rangers source has told Football Insider that Goldson has rejected a new contract and appears set to leave when his contract expires at the end of the season.

However, the Glasgow giants are not expected to sanction the defender’s sale this month.

Whelan insisted money talks and that if an acceptable offer is made, the Gers will look to cash in.

Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “If something comes in where they can get a bit of money for him in January, then they’ll take it. Absolutely no doubt about it, it’s a no brainer.

“If they do lose him, they lose him. At the minute, he seems pretty set on leaving.

“If they can grab any kind of money for him in January, it would be better than nothing.

“Could they entice him to stay with another contract? Maybe from that money that Patterson’s sale has just left.

“Maybe it was a bigger contract that he wanted, more wages. This could free up that cash to actually try and tempt Connor Goldson to stay.”

Goldson has been a mainstay for Rangers since joining from Brighton in 2018.

The centre-back has played 193 times the Glasgow giants to date, with 31 appearances under his belt this season.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst also has Calvin Bassey, Leon Balogun, Jack Simpson, Filip Helander and new signing James Sands to call upon at centre-back.
