Rangers tipped to terminate Barker contract after Campbell reveal - pundit
Kevin Phillips has tipped Rangers to “reach an agreement” with Brandon Barker to terminate his contract.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the 2000 European Golden Shoe winner said the club will want the 24-year-old off their books as soon as possible to make space for potential January signings.
This site revealed on deadline day that the Gers made the winger available for a loan move in the window just closed.
However, an Ibrox source has told Football Insider his “big” salary proved a major obstacle in any potential deals and he remained at the club beyond the deadline.
According to The Athletic‘s Jordan Campbell (September 1st), “something might happen soon” with the ex-Man City wide-man.
When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs what “something” likely means, Phillips said:

“Barker is not going to play and he clearly hasn’t been able to move on because he is on big money. I think they will come to an agreement [to mutually terminate his contract].
“The kid has probably been told, ‘Look, you’ve been here for a while. Go and play football.’ But he won’t leave for nothing.
“I’m sure they’ll reach an agreement. Perhaps he will get half or a quarter of the wages remaining on his contract.
“The club will want to get him off the wage bill as soon as possible. They will want to get him out of the door to free up a wage for someone in January.
“He is clearly not in Stevie G’s plans. You don’t want a player in your squad that isn’t happy and Barker won’t be happy not playing. Unhappy players can cause problems.”
