Rangers tipped to 'unleash' Itten after major new development - McLeish
Alex McLeish has tipped Giovanni van Bronckhorst to “unleash” Cedric Itten for Rangers in Friday’s Scottish Cup tie against Stirling Albion.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Ibrox boss admitted he is keen to see how the 25-year-old has developed since returning to Glasgow.
Itten was recalled from his loan spell at Greuther Furth earlier this month.
He came off the bench in the dying minutes of Tuesday’s 1-1 draw with Aberdeen.
Speaking on Monday (17 January), Van Bronckhorst insisted the Swiss hitman offers a “different” option up front compared to the other strikers at Ibrox.
McLeish suggested the Dutch manager could give Itten the chance to impress in Friday’s cup tie against Stirling.

“It will be interesting to see if Giovanni uses him more than Steven Gerrard did,” McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.
“He‘s gone away. Perhaps he’s got a bit more confidence and belief in himself playing in a top league like the Bundesliga.
“It will be interesting to see the kind of form and confidence Itten shows when he comes back.
“Friday is the game to unleash him.”
Itten played four times earlier this season before heading out on loan to Germany.
He scored twice in 12 league appearances for Greuther Furth.
The Switzerland international left with the German outfit sitting bottom of the Bundesliga.
Itten has scored six goals in 43 appearances for Rangers to date.
The Gers also have Alfredo Morelos, Fashion Sakala and Kemar Roofe as senior striking options.
