Rangers tipped to use £12m windfall to seal deal after Doekhi update - pundit
Alan Hutton has urged Rangers to splash out £2million to sign Danilho Doekhi from Vitesse Arnhem this month instead of waiting until the summer.
The former Gers defender and Rangers TV pundit, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the Light Blues could solve their centre-back dilemma by splashing out for the 23-year-old.
The Sunday Mail, as relayed by sister publication the Daily Record (8 January), claim Vitesse will demand £2million for Doekhi this month as Rangers plot a move.
That is despite the centre-back’s contract running out at the end of the season.
The Gers’ reportedly see Doekhi as a potential replacement for Connor Goldson but there is rival interest in his signature.
Hutton suggested Giovanni van Bronckhorst could use some of the funds raised by Nathan Patterson’s exit to pull off a move.

Asked if he thought Van Bronckhorst’s presence at Ibrox could help Rangers seal the deal, Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Of course. I mean, it will definitely help.
“Obviously, with Van Bronckhorst’s time over there in the Netherlands, he will know the player really well. The player will know him. It’s much like the Steven Gerrard situation, he’s got a really good pull.
“The ball is in Rangers’ court now. Do they want to wait and try and get him on a free? I’m pretty sure there’ll be other clubs looking for his signature.
“Or do they just go full steam ahead, get the deal done, pay the £2million and get him in now. They’ve obviously got the [initial £12million] money from Nathan Patterson.
“Do they want to spend a bit and get their targets through the door? That centre-back position in the Rangers team is up in the air at the moment for a lot of people.
“I think it would show good intent from Rangers to just go and get it done.”
Doekhi joined Vitesse from Ajax’s famed academy back in 2018.
He has played 116 times for his current club and made five appearances for the Netherlands’ under-21 side.
