Rangers should offer Scott Arfield a new two-year contract, according Paul Robinson.

The former Premier League goalkeeper, who played with Arfield at Burnley, told Football Insider the 33-year-old is "a great person" to have in the dressing room.

Arfield starred at Livingston on Sunday, scoring the opener in a 3-1 win.

The centre-midfielder has scored in each of his previous two starts for the Light Blues, having struggled for game time earlier in the season.

However, the player's future at Ibrox is far from certain following the arrival of Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

Arfield has just six months left on his current deal.

When asked by Football Insider's Dylan Childs if he expected a contract offer to be tabled, Robinson said: "Scott is a very intelligent player.

"I know him well and he is a great person to have around the changing room.

"You do not know what is going to happen when a player is in the last six months of his contract and a new manager comes in. Managers want to make changes and bring their own players in.

"If I was Van Bronckhorst I would give Scott another year or two. 100 per cent.

"I saw him on Sunday and I thought he was exceptional. He can still do it at the highest level."

Arfield joined Rangers on a free transfer from Burnley in July 2018.

He has amassed 157 appearances for the club since then.
