Rangers told to finalise 'top quality' Cahill signing after update - Mills

Gary Cahill would be a “top quality” signing for Rangers, according to Danny Mills.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Premier League and England full-back insisted Cahill’s experience would be invaluable at Auchenhowie.

The Sun reported on 17 July the Gers are eyeing the veteran defender and have now offered him a £35,000-a-week contract.

The ex-England star is currently a free agent after his Crystal Palace contract expired at the end of last month.

The Sun’s Tom Barclay reported on 22 July he has rejected a new contract offer from Palace as he is holding out for higher wages.

Asked whether Cahill would be a good signing for Rangers, Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “Definitely.

“He looks after himself, keeps himself fit. He’s solid, reliable and very, very experienced.

“He’s a good professional and I think that would be a top-quality signing. He’s a player who’s been there, done it and won it all.

“It’s a great opportunity for other players to learn from him in training and in matches. They can learn from the way he conducts himself and all those types of things.

“We all know that the standard of the Scottish Premiership is not the greatest in the world so in terms of quality it’s not a problem.

“It’s also what else he brings, that’s what’s really important.”

Cahill has won two Premier League titles, two FA Cups, League Cup, Europa League and Champions League with Chelsea.

He also has 61 England caps to his name and was part of the squad that reached the World Cup semi-finals in 2018.

In other news, a Rangers international star has been told he is free to leave after an English club make contact.
