Rangers TV pundit issues John Lundstram injury claim after behind-the-scenes sighting

Alan Hutton has tipped John Lundstram to make a swift recovery from injury after limping off for Rangers against St Mirren on Sunday.

The former Gers defender and Rangers TV pundit, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, revealed he spotted the 28-year-old moving without any notable discomfort when leaving the Saints’ stadium.

Speaking to Sky Sports on Sunday (10 April), Giovanni van Bronckhorst confirmed Lundstram picked up a groin niggle but is “hopeful” the midfielder will be fit for Thursday’s clash with Braga.

The midfielder, who came off after 26 minutes, has been a mainstay in the Rangers starting XI in recent weeks.

Hutton insisted the summer signing looked fine after Sunday’s win but admitted Van Bronckhorst might not want to take a risk.

Discussing Lundstram’s availability for Thursday, Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “It depends on how serious it is. They seemed quite positive after the game, the way they were talking about it.

“I saw him walking out of the stadium to the team bus, he wasn’t limping. He didn’t look like he was stiff or anything, he just looked normal, which is a good sign.

“I think if there is a slight doubt, you would probably want to protect him on Thursday. That being a home game, you want a lot of attacking flair on the pitch.

“You could maybe get away with resting him and bringing him back in for for the big game at the weekend. You’re going to need his defensive qualities as well as his ball retention.”

Lundstram has played 40 times for Rangers since joining from Sheffield United last summer.

He has sat out just eight times in Van Bronckhorst’s 30 games in charge.
