Rangers TV pundit issues 'worrying' Daizen Maeda verdict after what he saw from Fashion Sakala at Celtic

Alan Hutton has admitted Daizen Maeda is only going to get better at Celtic after playing a starring role in Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Rangers.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers defender and Rangers TV suggested the 24-year-old’s potential for next season should be a “worry for everyone”.

Maeda set up the opening goal at Parkhead on Sunday, with his cross turned in by Jota.

The Japan international, who joined in January, played 78 minutes before being replaced by Liel Abada.

Hutton hailed his “excellent” movement and compared it to that of Fashion Sakala at Rangers.

However, he claimed Maeda has better awareness in attack than his Rangers counterpart.

“The key part of being a forward is being clinical,” Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.

“Being able to the ball in the net, it’s not easy. One thing Sakala and Maeda have in common is their movement is excellent. We saw that for the cross for the goal, that run.

“I think that’s where he differs a little bit from Sakala. Sakala wants to be out-and-out, burst onto the scene and get a shot off.

“Maeda actually gets his head up and he looks for other players. He understands when they’re in a better position.

“You need to remember he has come off the back of a long season into another season. He has played a lot of football.

“Maybe with this season coming to an end, a good rest, we’ll probably see an even better Maeda. That’s probably a worry for everybody.”

Maeda has scored seven goals and contributed two assists in 17 appearances for Celtic.

He played under Ange Postecoglou at Yokohama F. Marinos, whose season finished shortly before his January move.
