Rangers TV pundit makes 'big' Ibrox transfer claim after Alex Lowry twist
Alan Hutton has insisted Rangers need to protect their top young assets like Alex Lowry to boost their potential transfer value.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers star and Rangers TV pundit admitted that "every player has a price" at Ibrox.
As revealed by Football Insider (29 April), Rangers are close to tying Lowry, 18, down to a new contract despite interest from Premier League sides.
With Lowry's current terms expiring next summer, both Newcastle United and Manchester City held talks with the attacking midfielder's camp over a possible move.
Hutton insisted tying the likes of Lowry down is "big" for Rangers in terms of future transfer fees.
Asked how important it is for Rangers to protect their assets with new contracts, Hutton told Football Insider's Russell Edge: "That's the big thing. We've spoken about it before.
"Every player at Rangers will have a price and if it's met, they'll leave.
"This is a young boy with so much potential. He's only 18, he's at the start of his career. Develop where you are, become a better player for Rangers.
"Then, in a few years time when you're ready and you're developed, if the opportunity arises then that's a better time to then go."
Lowry has made a total of four senior appearances for the Glasgow giants so far, with one league start to his name.
The Gers are keen to tie him down to a deal that runs until the summer of 2025.
