Rangers TV pundit makes 'crazy' claim after what he's heard from Rory Wilson over Aston Villa move

Alan Hutton has insisted it is “crazy” Rory Wilson believes he needs to leave Rangers and join Aston Villa for the good of his career.

However, the former Gers defender and Rangers TV pundit, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, admitted he understands why the 16-year-old wants to reunite with Steven Gerrard at the Premier League side.

As reported by the Sun (13 June), the striker’s move is set to go to Fifa over the compensation fee.

As quoted by the Daily Record last month (25 May), Wilson confirmed he would be leaving Rangers, stating: “It’s time to move on and get to the next level.”

He also said: “I want to go down south and try and prove myself and become a top player.”

Hutton, who came through the youth ranks at Ibrox, insisted he was “desperate” to play for Rangers.

However, he admitted the “lure of the Premier League is massive” nowadays.

Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Rory Wilson, he’s only 16. He’s got a lot of potential, he’s not ready for the first team, of course.

“I just think back to my time. All I was desperate to do was come through and play for Rangers.

“I’ve listened to some quotes from Rory Wilson saying he’s ready for the next stage of his development and in order to do that he needs to go down south.

“I’m thinking this is a 16-year-old boy. It’s crazy how times have moved forward and how things have changed.

“I get it, the lure of the Premier League is massive. Obviously, Steven Gerrard knows him really well so I get the link there. I get why he wants to go.”
