Rangers TV pundit makes 'massive' Alfredo Morelos claim after what he saw at Celtic

Alan Hutton has suggested Rangers would have come away from Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Celtic with the win had Alfredo Morelos been playing.

The former Gers defender and Rangers TV pundit, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 25-year-old would have scored one of the “massive” chances missed by his teammates.

Jota gave Celtic the lead but Fashion Sakala’s second-half strike ensured the points were shared at Parkhead.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst had to do without both Morelos and Kemar Roofe due to injury.

Hutton suggested things could have been different had the Gers had a natural goalscorer on the pitch.

Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “I think Celtic in the first half just edged it. They probably had the bigger opportunities.

“In the second half, I thought Rangers took control of the game. They had some massive opportunities to get the three points that didn’t quite come off.

“They just weren’t clinical. That’s all you can really put it down to. The opportunities were there. Some good movement and some good play, especially from wide areas.

“When Scott Wright came on, I thought he made a big difference. He showed that pace and he got into the box with his driving runs and cut the ball back into the box.

“I think it was Arfield who didn’t quite get the connection, Sakala off the post, Hart made a good save. It’s just about being clinical. You have to take your chances.

“On that day, in that specific moment, they couldn’t finish it off. I would think if you put Morelos in those positions with those opportunities, especially with his goalscoring record at this moment in time, I think he scores a goal.

“Roofe, he’s been on fire recently but I don’t think he’s as lethal as what Morelos is. If you put your star up front, I do think he finishes one of them off.”
