Rangers are working on recruiting a new attacking player as they step up plans for this window, Football Insider understands.

Steven Gerrard has revealed from the club’s mid-season training camp that he is looking to seal one senior deal this month while offloading up to four players on loan.

Ibrox sources have told Football Insider that the club’s recruitment team have compiled a shortlist of prospective winger candidates for Gerrard that addresses the right-flank problem.

This includes potential permanent and loan signings, as Rangers keep their options open ahead of what is likely to be a late-window deal.

Gerrard told Sky Sports he expects “three or four” players to depart the club, with one addition a possibility as he works alongside sporting director Wilson.

The Liverpool icon explained much depends upon the exits, with forgotten winger Jamie Murphy one who may go and Glenn Middleton set for another loan. The likes of Greg Docherty and Matt Polster are also set for temporary move.

The capture of a wide man who can thrive on the right will be a priority as there is an acceptance that none of the current options are ideal.

Liverpool loanee Sheyi Ojo has had a mixed opening half of the season, Brandon Barker has struggled to make an impression since signing from Manchester City and Scott Arfield has been moved back to a central position.

Joe Aribo is currently the player in possession of the right-wing slot and he has performed well in what is not his natural position.

In other Rangers news, it can be REVEALED that the club have offered a contract to a West Ham rising star who is on the verge of January transfer.
