'100% - Ex-refs chief drops verdict on Ryan Naderi controversy in Spain vs Czechia after analysing footage
Rangers striker Ryan Naderi saw his goal correctly ruled out during Czechia's 3-1 Nations League defeat to Spain.
That is according to former PGMOL chief and ex-FIFA referee, Keith Hackett, who exclusively told Football Insider that officials back in the United Kingdom must enforce the same rules.
After goals from Lamine Yamal, Rodri and Jiri Slama, the Gers' No.20 thought he had dragged Czechia onto level terms on Saturday, 3 October.
Arsenal's David Raya, following an an-swinging free-kick, dropped the ball into Naderi's path, who simply poked home into an empty net in the 79th minute.
However, after a VAR review of the build-up, it was found that Lukas Cerv had fouled Robin Le Normand on the edge of the box, grappling and pulling on the centre-half.
Of course, Czechia were furious, with Ladisvlav Krejci being cautioned for dissent, but it allowed Spain to go on and seal all three points.
Referee '100%' right to disallow Ryan Naderi's goal
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Hackett admitted that he agreed wtih the decision, even wanting to see more of these decisions back in England and Scotland.
"This is the difficulty I think that players face, especially when they're playing in the Premier League," he said.
"This sort of liberal approach to grappling shows when they come to an international competition, with a different style of refereeing, and a different approach.
"And as a result, I'm supporting that referee. I'm actually saying he's 100 per cent correct. And when you actually look at him, he's looking at that holding.
"He's determining, even before the ball's gone in, that an offence has taken place. He's not blown. That's the only difficulty. I would have liked him to have blown immediately before the ball's been touched into goal.
"But for me, it's the correct decision by the match official. Good to see that type of holding, which was very evident, penalised. Premier League referees, you've got to do the same."
Rangers strikers caught up in controversy
Naderi was not the only one who were at the centre of a controversial moment during the international break.
Bojan Miovski, who has become somewhat of a forgotten figure at Ibrox, was unfairly cautioned as he conceded a penalty against Scotland.
He blocked a point-blank shot from inside the six-yard box, stopping the ball on the line. But he was given no time at all to react.
At the very most, it should have been a Scotland corner. Instead, John McGinn netted from the penalty spot, as North Macedonia fell to a 2-0 defeat.
