Andreas Skov Olsen has already auditioned for Derek McInnes - this is how the Rangers loanee fared

Danny Rohl's move to RB Salzburg could be a saving grace for Andreas Skov Olsen as a Rangers player ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.

In 11 games during his six-month loan at Ibrox, the 26-year-old notched one goal and three assists, but spent five of the final six games stuck on the bench.

It had become pretty clear that Rohl wasn't the biggest fan of the Wolfsburg loanee, with the majority of reports suggesting that a permanent deal was never going to be triggered.

However, with Derek McInnes now in charge of the Gers, the situation has completely changed, and the 2. Bundesliga side appear desperate to get him off the books this summer.

While it is still understood that the Light Blues have no intention of triggering the buy-option in the player's contract, a chance remains of him returning to Scotland.

According to Salzgitter Zeitung, Wolfsburg are so eager to sell him that they're willing to reduce the asking price, not expecting to get anywhere near the £12.1million the club paid for him.

There is every chance that McInnes could force the Gers into a U-turn, especially having not seen what he's like behind the scenes.

The incoming manager had two opportunities to see Skov Olsen in action as Hearts manager during the 2025-26 campaign, and they may have been two of his better performances.

At the beginning of May, as the Jambos claimed a 2-1 win, the attacker fired one shot at goal, completed 100 per cent of his dribbles, won 67 per cent of his ground duels, and made two recoveries [FotMob].

And previously, one of Skov Olsen's three assists came in the Gers' 4-2 win over Hearts in February, and he caused a lot of trouble during that game.

Rangers out of their mind if Vaclav Cerny is snubbed

Very few at Ibrox would argue that Skov Olsen's loan spell worked out like expected, but that doesn't mean that all temporary moves are failures.

Supporters instantly fell in love with winger Vaclav Cerny during the 2024-25 campaign, with the majority wanting the club to splash out on a permanent deal.

He notched 18 goals and nine assists in 52 appearances at Ibrox, before then returning to Wolfsburg to sign for Besiktas instead.

It has not been the best next step in the winger's career, and there are now rumours that the Gers could bring him back to Scotland in an emotional reunion.

If the choice is between Skov Olsen and Cerny, it should be the latter every day of the week.
