Emmanuel Fernandez's amazing stats revealed from Rangers draw vs Dundee United

Emmanuel Fernandez got his season off to a great start on Friday as Rangers drew 1-1 with Dundee United on the Scottish Premiership's opening day.

Lachlan Rose got the scoring underway for the hosts before Thelo Aasgaard equalised in the second half with a thumping effort.

Derek McInnes will ultimately feel glad to see his team at least emerge with a point, after Jesse Randall went through on goal in the closing stages but could only chip into the arms of Ivor Pandur.

Fernandez joined Rangers last summer and initially looked to struggle with the Scottish Premiership, but he has gone from strength to strength in 2026.

Champions Celtic will host Dundee FC in their own opener on Monday, as the Gers face a potential two-point deficit to open the season.

Several competitive Rangers debuts took place on Friday, with new arrivals from Hearts Lawrence Shankland and Cammy Devlin starting.

But it was last summer's signings that ultimately made the biggest impression, with Aasgaard providing most of the Rangers threat while Fernandez impressed at the back.

The 24-year-old made an astonishing 16 clearances on the night, with nine of them made via his head.

The defender also recorded an interception, three recoveries, a successful dribble and even created a chance.

In the ground duel, Fernandez had an absurd 93 per cent success rate, winning 13 of the 14 he contested.

Rangers must be wary of Fernandez interest

Premier League sides were already said to be keeping an eye on Fernandez, and displays like Friday's will not discourage them.

The 24-year-old is emerging as a real prospect and with the transfer window open until the start of September, interest could be formalised.

The Premier League champions, Arsenal, have even been linked with a potential move for the defender.

Rangers are in a commanding position given Fernandez's contract, which expires in 2029 with an option for an additional, and will need to extract maximum value if the situation does arise.
